The Art of

Terra Cotta & Color

This one hour program explores the art of terra cotta, beginning with a quick overview of the manufacturing process, covering the natural variation in clay tile along with the glazing techniques to achieve the desired color.  This course also focuses on the color selection and matching process to custom and historic profiles.

Learning Objectives:

- Communicate the various color opportunities and capabilities of the standard colors, glazing techniques, custom color development and color by hues.

- Discuss overall expectations regarding color matching, color blending and sampling.

- Review the step by step color matching process and specific case studies in regard to custom color development and historic preservation projects.

Jann Hughes rejoined the Ludowici family three years ago after raising her three children in the Atlanta area. Jann brings with her over 20 years’ experience in the hard roofing industry, working in the Texas and Southeastern part of the US. She is a graduate of Texas Tech with a BS in engineering, beginning her career in the oil industry in Houston prior to moving into sales of hard roofing through a family business.

Cindy Walker is the Ludowici Commercial Market Manager in Texas and joined the company with personal knowledge and experience of Ludowici's products having lived in both a house and Dallas neighborhood of homes sporting the organization’s roof and quarry tile.  She began working in the Ludowici Dallas Design Center in 2019, initially focused in the Educational sector and now covers all Commercial market segments – Hospitality, Business, Government, Religious and Military.
