While building codes address basic safety requirements, many interiors require more to accommodate changing physical, medical, and generational needs. Compliance with ADA and TAS regulations does not guarantee functional, safe environments for occupants with evolving physical capabilities.
Designers will explore critical HSW considerations including: fall prevention and injury reduction for children and aging adults, safe spatial planning for temporary mobility limitations post-surgery, ergonomic design that prevents repetitive strain and physical stress, safe integration of medical and assistive equipment, multi-generational household safety planning, and proactive design strategies that reduce health risks associated with aging in place.
