Led by Cowden Bell, this advanced course demystifies the art and science of specifying leather for discerning residential clients. Designers will gain insight into leather types, finishes, durability, and sourcing considerations to ensure both aesthetic and functional success. Bell shares expert strategies for aligning leather choices with lifestyle, climate, and long-term performance. Ideal for experienced designers ready to elevate their material mastery and deliver truly bespoke interiors.

Cowden Bell, a seventh-generation Texan, discovered his passion for leather while studying at the University of Texas, transforming thrifted cowhides into coveted handmade bags. After relocating to New Mexico in the early ’90s, he honed his leatherworking skills under master craftsman Elliott Hampton, leading to a pivotal project for Walt Disney that showcased his artistry. Returning to Texas, Bell launched his own design line with Paul Owen, creating midcentury-inspired furniture and leather décor that gained national attention through Ann Sacks. Operating from his Weatherford studio, Bell and his team craft bespoke pieces using Italian leather and exotic hides for clients worldwide. With plans to expand his studio and launch an online store, Bell continues to merge his retail roots with high-end craftsmanship.
